Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth is the latest instalment in the series of Digimon Games. Cyber Sleuth is a JRPG developed by Media Vision.
Players who wanted this game had to wait a year after the Japanese release and even then it was uncertain that it would be released in Europe. However, Cyber Sleuth is out and at long last there’s a Digimon game that is good enough for fans.
Cyber Sleuth is a JRPG with a monster collecting mechanic. Other Digimon games have the same mechanic but it has been expanded upon greatly in Cyber Sleuth.
The combat system in the game is turn-based, similar to the older Final Fantasy games. The combat does have some serious depth to it and, has the most in-depth combat system in a Digimon game to date.
The story in Digimon is pretty good, which comes as no suprise. What does suprise us though is how mature the story actually is.
Digimon has always been more mature and grittier than Pokemon but this story is definitely aimed towards the franchise’s older fans.
Whilst Cyber Sleuth is one of the best JRPGs on the PlayStation 4, it does have its problems.
One of them is, surprisingly, the story. Whilst previously mentioned that the story is good it is slow to start off, it doesn’t start to pick up some pace until about chapter eight.
The game’s online function is pretty bad. The concept behind it is good but its execution is poor. It took forever for to find a match.
Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth is the first great JRPG of 2016, great mechanics and a great story come together to make one fantastic game. Let’s just hope that this tells Namco that Digimon is still loved here in the west.
