Adam McGurk touch and go for playoffs

Adam McGurk

Burton Albion forward Adam McGurk faces a race against time to be fit for the Sky Bet League 2 playoffs next weekend.

The frontman has scored ten goals this season and has featured heavily for Gary Rowett’s side this season.

But he has been out with a knee injury since Albion’s win at home to Wycombe Wanderers at the end of March.

His presence was missed at the Pirelli Stadium yesterday (April 27) as the Brewers put in a toothless performance, going down 2-0 to Chesterfield who sealed promotion to Sky Bet League One.

But Rowett is hopeful of some sort of involvement from McGurk going into the two-legged playoff semi.

Rowett said: “We’ll have a look at one or two other situations but we’re hoping that Adam will be fit for next week.”

Midfielder Zeli Ismail got some valuable game time, replacing captain Lee Bell midway through the second half and Rowett is confident the Wolves loanee will get better in the coming games.

“We knew he was going to be a little bit rusty, but he’ll definitely be better for it,” added Rowett.

But before Burton can focus on the playoffs, they face a trip to Roots Hall to play Southend United.

The match will decide whether Burton play their second leg of their playoff semi final at home or away.
